Success Stories
1. Relocation
The Challenge
A major market research and information-gathering
client was relocating their 600-member corporate
office staff. The project was divided into three
phases, requiring specific timing for the relocation
of each department to minimize the impact on
internal operations and customer needs. The final
phase of the project was running three weeks behind
schedule. It was imperative that the final move be
accomplished on time, not only to minimize lost
productivity, but a new tenant was scheduled to move
into the existing location and any delay would cost
the client a significant financial penalty.
The
pci
Solution
The pci group was selected
to develop and execute a project plan as well as
coordinate the activities of numerous contractors
and sub-contractors providing services and materials
to the relocation project. The activities of these
suppliers were planned and scheduled to support the
overall construction timing constraints and project
plans were optimized to reduce the overall project
timing by 15 days. An experienced pci project manager monitored the suppliers’
individual project status and managed the integrated
master plan and overall project communications.
Client Value
The successful project planning and control of the
overall project allowed our client to complete the
relocation on time and under budget. More
importantly, the relocation from site to site caused
only one day of lost productivity for the 150 staff
members impacted by the move. The success of the
project led to an extension of the initial scope to
include the consolidation of three east coast
offices into a single site.
2. IT System Rollout
The Challenge
A major IT hardware company was contracted to
automate branch offices for a large commercial
consumer-lending corporation. The complexity was
high due to the multi-vendor equipment and service
provider environment. The set-up and configuration,
on-line testing prior to shipment, as well as
industry maintenance and distribution of the system
components further complicated the project
implementation and rollout. The challenge was the
deployment of client/server environment hardware and
software for 104 branch offices and 3 customer
service centers across North America, with minimal
disruption to normal branch operations and no impact
on customer service.
The
pci
Solution
The pci group was selected
to provide consulting services in the development
and implementation of a program management
methodology that would meet the needs of both our
direct and indirect clients. This methodology
established a framework for the planning,
monitoring, controlling and reporting on the four
key elements of the branch office automation
rollout:
-
Site
surveys and required corrections of the existing
offices.
-
Staging and
distribution of new environment hardware.
-
De-installation of the current environment
hardware.
-
Installation of new environment hardware
including full-system functionality.
Additionally, we provided our client with an
experienced project manager to execute the
methodology and associated rollout plan.
Client Value
The successful project planning and control of the
overall project allowed our client to complete the
project on time and on budget. More importantly, the
107 installations were completed without lost
productivity of the branch offices. Both our IT and
commercial lending clients were extremely satisfied
with the final results of our solution.
3. Program Office
The Challenge
A global automobile Manufacturing Engineering
Organization was responsible for the design and
delivery of tooling and equipment systems used to
manufacture key engine components. As part of our
client’s overall strategy to enhance the on-time
delivery capability of its suppliers, they needed to
develop and implement a solution that would enhance
the program management capabilities of the
Manufacturing Engineering Organization and the
tooling and equipment systems of the Original
Equipment Manufacturers.
The
pci
Solution
The pci group was selected
to develop and implement a customized Manufacturing
Engineering Program Office and System as well as
establish the framework that would allow our client
to effectively manage its business relationships
with numerous suppliers. They also needed to
"institutionalize" the program management discipline
and practices within their Manufacturing Engineering
Organization. The scope of the engagement included
the development and implementation of a customized
Program Management Office and System (PMOS) for
tooling and equipment projects. We worked
extensively with our client’s staff members to
execute specific initiatives designed to provide
program management processes, templates, forms,
policy guidelines and training that resulted in an
integrated program management system.
Client Value
The successful development and implementation of the
PMOS Project enabled our client and their suppliers
to effectively manage tooling and equipment
projects. The Program Office is considered to be a
major asset to their organization and has been
approved for expansion into the Manufacturing
Engineering Transmissions and Castings
Organizations.
